Overview of UDSSCCU

The University for Development Co-operative Credit Union Limited was formed on the 4 th July 1994. As financial co-operative institution, UDSSCCU assumed its legal existence through registration with the Department of Co-operative on 19th July 2002. The union’s legal mandate is to provide financial services to its registered members. Specifically, the union promotes savings, lending and other financial services sanctioned under regulation (4) of its Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2225) of 2015.

Membership of the credit union is opened to the general public of the three Northern Regions (Northern, Upper East and Upper West) in Ghana. It is an affiliate of CUA Limited (The Credit Unions’ Apex Body in Ghana) and remains the leading credit union in the Northern Chapter.

Vision

The UDSSCCU is a co-operative financial institution that aims at becoming the best co-operative credit union in the three Northern Regions, seeking to raise the living standards of its members and their families within its operational areas.

Mission

As a Co-operative Financial Services Provider, UDSSCCU seeks to raise the standard the living standards of its members through the following strategies;

  • Go all out to educate potential members to participate in it products and services.

  • Offer prompt services to its members.

  • Offer adequate financial education to its members.

  • Have a proactive member care to develop the assets base for accelerated economic
    development.

Management

Management is composed of the Manager and other employed staff members.

Leadership

Leadership on the other hand is made up of all committees including the Board of Directors, Loans committee, Supervisory Committee and the Education Committee

Membership

Membership of the Credit Union is made up of all registered members of the society who have met the current minimum share requirement of GH¢100.00. Membership is the supreme authority of the Union and remains the highest decision making body of the credit union at AGMs.

Governance

Governance is by seven-member Board of Directors, three-member Loans and Supervisory Committees respectively, who are usually elected democratically at its Annual General Meetings. The BOD as well as the other Committees after election, appoints from among its elected members, a Chairman, a Secretary, a Treasurer and other positions that may be necessary. Each component of the structure has a distinct role to play.
